We are blessed in Tubbercurry and South Sligo to have families like the O’Donnell’s in our midst and brother and sister Eoin & Siobhan have been leading our Traditional Singing & Lilting Workshop in recent years.
Likewise, geographically we are situated more or less halfway between the Gaeltacht areas of Connemara and Donegal and over the years have been lucky to have had tutors of the calibre of Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde and Caitríona Ní Cheannabháin, amongst others, teach Amhránaíocht ar an tSean Nós at our summer school.
In 2025 we were a bit closer to home when Síle Uí Mhongáin from the Iorras peninsula in neighbouring County Mayo taught our class of enthusiastic singers of all ages.
This year we welcome back Caitríona Ní Cheannabháin, returning to teach at Scoil Samhraidh Shligigh Theas after an absence of a few years.

Sean-Nós Singing w/ Caitríona Ní Cheannabháin
Caitríona Ní Cheannabháin
Caitríona, from Carna, County Galway, in the heart of Connemara, began singing in childhood and was just 12 years old when she recorded her first tape with her late dad, Michael. He’d been asked by the Connemara publishing house Cló-Iar Chonnacht to record an album and was happy to as long as Caitríona was involved. Later, as a sean-nós singer, Caitríona won the women’s competition at Oireachtas na Gaeilge three times. Caitríona’s most recent album, ‘Queen of Connemara – Songs from the Mist’, released in July 2019, includes favourite well known sean nós songs ‘An Spailpín Fánach’ & ‘Tá mo Chleamhnas Déanta’.
